I believe that M&E is everyone’s job. Program implementers must be able to make data-driven decisions; grant-writers must explain the theory of change; the finance team needs data to make budget predictions. I specialize in training teams to contribute to the organizations’s M&E strategy and to use data to improve overall impact and operations. I can work with the one individual on your team responsible for M&E, or conduct broader trainings across the organization. I train specific M&E skills, like data analysis, and larger M&E concepts, like developing theories of change and choosing research methods.
I conduct external evaluations for organizations that lack the resources to hire and train M&E teams, or that want to bolster their credibility by handing evaluation over to unbiased outsiders. External evaluations can take many forms: case studies explore a specific unit, like an individual or a project site, in-depth to understand various program effects; randomized control trials quantify results and provide “proof” of impact; and participatory evaluations involve stakeholders across the spectrum from beneficiaries to government officials - just to name a few methods.
I will work with you to determine the best method for your needs, and will design and conduct the evaluation. The final product will be a report on your results that you can share with stakeholders, include in grant applications, and use for internal learning. Our partnership doesn’t end until you fully understand the results of your evaluation, and how to use them to become more effective.
For organizations just starting out with M&E or looking to move to the next level, I will partner with you to develop your strategy and implement the systems you need. Together, we will elucidate your theory of change, find the best way to measure your results, and develop systems for data collection, management and reporting. Strategy and systems support can easily be combined with capacity building to ensure that your team can utilize every tool at their disposal to measure and report on results. Systems setup can be as simple as creating an annual M&E workplan, or as complex as setting up and implementing Salesforce for data tracking. Your M&E strategy and systems do not need to be the most complex ones available - my priority is to develop a strategy that your team can continue to manage independently, making M&E an easy, integrated part of your work.
